Color Challenge

Has it really been that long since I last blogged?? Wow Summer Lovin’ is definitely getting in the way of blogging and crafting. We have been spending lots of time biking and have been to see Kung Fu Panda twice now. Such a cute movie!! A must see with or without the kids LOL.

Monday means Color Challenge day and I did get around to that. This week’s colors are…

With the added challenge of something new and something old added in. I had to go through all my stuff looking for copper. I don’t own hardly any. I did find some metallic paper that I have had for probably 7years so that gets to be the something old. The new is a copper ink pad I just happened to buy not long ago. So onto the projects.

This card was inspired by a conversation I had about my Blog Hop cards. My Mother thought the transparencies looked like tin ceiling tiles. So I thought why not make a copper one. I just ran the copper paper in an embossing folder and voila looks pretty good eh? I also embossed some cream cardstock and ran my copper ink pad over it to highlight the emboss. I also dyed some white ribbon to match with a Palette ink pad.

This card was a happy accident. I embossed a scrap of copper paper and ran a green ink pad over it. I was trying to get a verdigris look. What ended up happening was the ink reacted with the paper and took off the copper part exposing a silver color underneath. Here is a close up..

{It was very difficult to photograph these. The paper kept bouncing light off it everywhere. I hope you can see well.} I got out a full sheet and embossed. I thought it was so cool I didn’t want to cover it up. I end up keeping it simple so the emboss could shine.

This last card does not follow the rules for the Color Challenge. I’m not all that great at following the rules. :-)

I used some SEI pattern paper and the new Guide Lines stamp from Papertrey to make the checked paper. I also used that copper ink pad to stain my chipboard. Pretty simple and quick to put together.

I hope you enjoyed the projects and if you give the colors a try let me know I would love to see. Thanks for stopping by and for all your comments I truly appreciate it. Have a wonderful day!!

Papertrey Blog Hop

Tonight is Blog Hop night over on the Papertrey Forum. The challenge for this month was to use transparencies in a unique way. Well I had a hard time with that. It took some time for me to come up with something different to do with them. I had the idea of running them through an embossing folder and coloring the backside of the de-bossed part. So the front would be embossed with color inside it and the rest still clear. This was much harder to achieve than it was to think it up. The first example uses acrylic paint.

Here is a close up of the transparency

I tried to wipe the excess off, but realized that I was painting on the side that had a bit of tackiness too it. It was reacting with the damp towel I had and gumming it up. I decided to go with it and ended up with a sort of shabby chic look.

The second card I embossed with the tacky side being the front and the slick side the back. I was able to use some Palette ink to fill in and it wiped off pretty easily. It did however not dry well. It was still wet when I put the card together. I did at one point try and heat set it, but I lost some of the embossing. So I opted to use on a bit of it peeking out on this card here…

Another close up..

This was a fun challenge and I plan on trying out this idea some more and refining the technique. Hopefully getting the card to match what was is in my head. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my projects. Make sure you check out all the other wonderful inspiration over on the forum here.

Summer Fun Color Challenge

Hi everyone I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Today is Color Challenge day and here are the fun colors...

Summer colors for sure! My first project is a card of course. I wanted a fun happy card.

Looks like summer fun to me. Sorry for the poor photo. For the life of me I could not get a good shot. The flower is actually a perfect match to the ribbon and the polka dot background. The inspiration for the card came from a purse that I FINALLY finished. It took forever. I ordered some of the supplies online and was sent the wrong things. So it ended up taking longer than I had hoped. Without further ado here is the inspiration piece.

Look Mom a zipper!

Cute huh? I needed a new fun summer bag….well maybe not needed.:) This was the first purse I have ever sewn. I’ve don’t plenty of totes, but never a purse. The flower on the front comes off in case I need to wash it or just get tired of it. I learned a lot from this project for sure. Some things I would change if I could do it over, but I already have plans for another one. I plan to make one with this fabric...
I also want to make a coordinating wallet, but I need to find a good pattern. Anyone know of one? Well that is the Color Challenge for this week. I hope you enjoyed them and if you take these colors out for a spin leave me a link in the comments I want to come check it out!
Well that is all I have time for today. I have a ton of work to do around the house and some errands to run. They are supposedly coming tomorrow to finally fix our air so I need to get everything done today. Keeping my fingers crossed that they get it fixed. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have wonderful day!

A little Sweet Somethin'

So need a little something sweet today? I found a recipe in my new Penzey’s catalog. I love their spices. If you are in need of some or want something new check them out. I promise you will not be disappointed! So on to the recipe they call them Peanut Butter Bars.

They turned out so good. I think though I may tweak the recipe a bit next time. See what other fun things I can do with it. These bars are also no bake which as hot as it’s been here (and we STILL don’t have air-looong story) I definitely need a dessert that doesn’t heat up the house. I could not find the recipe on their site so here it is…
Peanut Butter Bars
1/3 Box of Graham Crackers Crushed (which is about one sleeve)
½ Tsp. Cinnamon
1 Cup butter
2 Tsp. Vanilla
1 ½ Cups Peanut Butter creamy or chunky
3 ½ Cups Powdered sugar
1 12oz bag of Chocolate Chips
Crush the crackers into fine crumbs. Mix in the cinnamon and set aside. Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Remove from heat and add the vanilla and peanut butter and mix well. Add the powdered sugar and graham crackers. Stir until well combined; it will be a stiff dough. Pat the mixture into an ungreased 9x13 pan. Melt the chocolate chips on very low heat in a really heavy sauce pan stirring until melted. Spread the chocolate over the peanut butter layer. Refrigerate for 1 hour before cutting. Yummm.
Now I also made a card today too.
I was inspired by the Peanut Butter Bars so I made a card using some chocolate paper. LOL.

I am in need of some more no bake recipes so I will be scouring the net for those as well as playing catch up today. Well I must get to it and hopefully I will have some play time today! I hope you have a wonderful day. Thanks for stopping by.
Supplies

Color Challenge Cards Continued

Wow it’s been a crazy 24 hours at my house. Sheesh! After my post yesterday all went down hill and the to-do list that was miles long went out the window. My youngest got really sick! That meant everything I had planned didn’t happen. After about noon though she was feeling much better and by dinner time she was back to her energizer bunny self. You would have never known she was sick. It was weird. Today became all about making up yesterday and trying to tackle today’s list of things. I always seem to plan more in a day than is humanly possible. Most of us probably do, but I have this bizarre idea that I can actually get it done. Don’t know what on earth I am thinking when I make out those lists. Anyway today I promised you the rest of the cards I made using the color challenge and here they are.

This one uses a new little stamp I got. It’s by Penny Black. It looks like a dandelion. It’s so cute. I added some Crystal Stickles to the flower head for a little sparkle. This picture isn’t the greatest. I also did some sewing again. The machine was giving me fits on this card.

This last card is my FAVORITE.

I just love it. I had a scrap piece of pattern paper that I made from my Guest Star Stamper entries that needed some love. You can see the card I originally made it for here. I added some Crystal Stickles again and some Tulip paint to the centers. It was so pretty that I didn’t want to cover it up with anything else. I did manage to force myself to put a sentiment on it. The photo really does not do it justice. I took several pictures of this card and just could not get one that really showed how pretty this card is. You will just have to trust me I guess.

That is all my cards for the Color Challenge this week. I got some new goodies in the mail today and I’m hoping I will have time to play after the kids go to bed. Make sure you stop by tomorrow for something sweet! Have a great night and thanks for stopping by!

Color Challenge

It’s Color Challenge day WhooHoo!! I have had so little time to create lately that when I sat down to work on my challenge for the weekend I made several items. Today I will share with you 3 of them and tomorrow I will show you what else I made. So first things first the colors I had to use were...

A lot calmer than last week, but very fun indeed. The first card was just a quick little thing I did.

I punched out some circles from some pattern paper and sewed them on. I don’t sew much on my cards and I have no idea why. Need to work on that I guess. Which by the way if you are in the market for a small machine Hancock has the Janome mini on sale fro $39.99!! I am seriously thinking about getting one of those. For the kids of course*wink*. Ok now back on track. The next card is pretty simple.

I used another $1 stamp this time by Autumn Leaves for my main image. The little pearl dots were made using some dimensional paint by Tulip. The look of brads without the bulk. If you notice I did not put a sentiment on this one. Sometimes its nice to not have one incase you need to personalize it later or just jot a quick note for someone. I really love how that one turned out.

The last card I will share for today is a tall Thank You card.

This one turned out cute too. I love the scalloped edge. Also having the sentiment at the very top was a nice change of pace for me.
I hope you enjoyed the colors and my cards this week. If you take me up on my Color Challenge get me a shout and leave me a link to your creation. You must take time to go visit Julie on her blog. She took the Color Challenge from last week and ran with it. That girl created three different cards using the fun Teal and Lime combo. Go check it out and leave her some love.
That is all I have for you today. I have huge to-do list planned for today and hopefully I will have time for some creative play. Thank you for taking the time to visit and I hope you have a wonderful day! See you tomorrow with some more Color Challenge cards!

Mega Post

Wow the week has flown by. I’m still trying to figure out where Monday went and here we are and it’s the start of another new week. I have been trying to write this blog post for a few days now so be prepared for a long post. I got sick again and with the kids out of school now it seems I have more interruptions during the day. We have not settled into our summer routine as of yet and that has things a little chaotic. Every summer since the kids started school we have Mommy Summer School. Every day we work in workbooks and have daily reading. We don’t want those little brains of theirs turning to mush. Then we do various projects. I always try to spend this time teaching them things they may not learn in school. Whether that is going to swimming lessons at the pool, learning a new craft or learning how to do something around the house. This year the kids want to learn to cook and sew. Those are top on the list to try. Today the kids were busying themselves with some stamping. And they had ink everywhere. My youngest now has pink and green arms. They used some kid’s washable ink, but it didn’t come off. Even after a soak in the tub. Note to self: Just because it says it’s washable doesn’t mean it is. LOL!

I try every day to do something creative and find that if the kids are doing the same I get more time to play too. On the weekends you can find all of us husband included working together on our craft projects. Sometimes though you just have those days where you know there will be no time to play. That is when I try to see the creative potential in everyday things. Just being a Mother and dealing with the day to day things can be a very creative job. In my house all the cooking I do to keep my family fed is definitely a creative job. Especially now with the grocery prices on the rise. You really have to work those creative muscles to keep the food budget down. Do you create daily? Once a week? As the urge strikes? I also have so many things I enjoy doing. Things like stamping, scrapbooking, photography, sewing, jewelry making and more. I always end up having several projects going at once. Some times that is a good thing and sometimes not. Do you like to work on one project and finish before you start another? Or are you happiest with multiple projects at once? Right now I have about 3 big projects I’m in the middle of making. I can’t wait to show you what I have been up to with those. With lots of projects in various stages of completion I always need some instant gratification projects. One of the things I always turn to is cards. They are so simple and can be completed in one sitting. If all I have is 10 or 15 minutes I know I can get a card done in that time. This week I got to get some kids cards done. I needed some boy and girl birthday cards. Just basic easy cards. Here is what I came up with…

This is the boy card. Not sure I’m crazy about it, but I don’t think a little boy will mind too much.
The supplies are:
Cardstock: Summer Sunrise, White-Papertrey, Blue- Bazzil
Stamps: Cupcakes-Hero Arts, Borders & Corners Circle-Papertrey
Ink: Colorbox
Cuttlebug Numbers Embossing Folder
Crystal Stickles.
The next card is for a little girl.

I used a $1 stamp cupcake for this one. I am addicted to $1 stamps. There are so many cute stamps and for the money I just can’t help myself. They are especially good for the kids. If they loose them or tear them its ok because it’s only $1. Love it! This card is more for a 7 or 8 yr old. Just a basic card. Here is a close up of all the sparkle on the cupcake.
I also added some dots of Stickles here and there on the background to give a little more sparkle.

Here are the supplies on this one:
Cardstock: Sweet Blush, Berry Sorbet, White-Papertrey
Stamps: Studio G, Papertrey
Ink: Palette
Ribbon: Offray
Circle Nestabilities
Crystal and Red Stickles
This last card is definitely a favorite.

It uses another $1 stamp image from Imaginisce. This penguin is so stinking cute! I just absolutely {heart} him. I also have his hula sister. Can not wait to play with her. My kids do a lot of letter writing in the summer to friends and grandparents. This will be a cute little card to add to the basket for them.
Supplies
Stamps: Simple Little Things-Papertrey, Penguin-Imaginisce
Paper-White, Kraft-Papertrey, Orange, Teal-Unknown scraps
Brads-The Paper Studio
Other- Markers-EK Success, Prisma Color Pencils, Ink-Palette

So that is all I was able to complete this week. I am finally feeling better again and ready to tackle the Color Challenge and have that up for you on Monday. Well if you made it this far and read all this YOU ROCK!!! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and visit with me! See you on Monday with my Color Challenge! {Hugs}

Simple Masculine Card

Wow it’s been a long day. Today was the first day of summer vacation for the kids. So it was a little busy with them. I also spent most of the day trying to get some things done around the house. It was a cooler day today and since the air is still not working I tried to take advantage and get stuff done. Tomorrow is going to be a hot one. They are supposed to come look at the air conditioner on Thursday so hopefully some cooler air soon.
I had a great mail day today. Some new magazines, catalogs and a delivery of some sewing goodness. I started a sewing project that I hope to share soon. One of the things I ordered didn't arrive so the project is on hold until that comes, but I’m so excited about it. Lots of fun!! I did manage to get one little card done to share with you. I needed a very simple masculine birthday card and this is what I came up with.

Simple isn’t it? It is just what I needed. No frou-frou for the guys. I used a Cuttlebug Embossing folder and a scrap of pattern paper from Making Memories. The tag is a leather tag from Heidi Grace I think. Then of course a screw brad. I really love those and I’m running out. I really NEED to find more. The sentiment was from the Shapes by Design set from Papertrey.
That is all for today. It is getting late and I have a few more little things to get done before bed. I’m sure the girls will be up early tomorrow and ready to start the day and I will want to sleep in. LOL. Have a great evening and thanks for stopping by. See ya tomorrow.

Color Challenge

Yay its Color Challenge day. I’m so excited to show you what I made this weekend. The colors are much brighter than last week. For those of you that don’t know every weekend I get a color challenge from my husband and sometimes a theme. This week the challenge was to make 3 cards using the same sketch and these colors

The first card is pretty simple.

I used some Autumn Leaves flourish stamps to get the design on the aqua paper. The faux brads use the same stamp on some lime paper. I then just punched out circles. I love how they look. This would be great with a larger punch.
The next card was a lot of fun.

The butterfly is from the Butterfly Kisses set from Papertrey. I found a scrap piece of vellum that I stamped on. It has a pearl-like shine to it. On the back I added some ink to the wings. I love how pretty this ended up looking. Here is a close up of it.

My last card I made some pattern paper using the Beautiful Blooms set.
I really love how this one came together too. The rick rack on the card is made of felt. I love that stuff.

This challenge was much easier for me than those browns from last week. I’m in the mood for bright and this was perfect. If you give the challenge a try let me know I would love to come check it out. You must go and see Katie and Janean’s blog for their take on last weeks challenge. They are fantastic.

Today is the last day of school for the kids and they have an awards ceremony today so I am off to go to that. Thanks for looking and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Hi and Hello

Here is the card I promised. I got this idea that I wanted to fill a strip of paper with Hi and Hello. I raided my stash for all that I could find and some alpha’s too. This reminded me of those stamping wheel images. I just randomly filled the strip with the stamps. This would be a great idea for any theme sentiment or similar images. Perfect if you have a bunch of small images and want some big impact. I really enjoyed this idea and want to play with this concept again.
That is all for today. Make sure you stop by Monday for another Color Challenge! See ya then.

Rocky Road Brownies Part Deux

A couple of you asked about a recipe for the brownies I posted yesterday. There was a recipe in the June issue of Everyday Food magazine, but really you don’t need a recipe for it. I just used my favorite brownie recipe. Which you can find at the left in the Labels section under Cookies and Brownies. Then I just added the toppings. So you could use your favorite scratch recipe or even a boxed recipe. The topping is this…

½ cup chocolate chips
½ cup nuts of your choice. I used peanuts
1 cup of mini marshmallows

Bake your brownies first and about 2-3 minutes before they are done pull them out and add the topping. Now you can just put them in the oven and turn the oven off and let the heat melt everything or use the broiler if you want your marshmallows toasted. Either way is good. And leave them just until they start to melt or a little longer. Again it’s your choice.

Another simple idea for this is to replace the Rocky Road topping with different flavored chips and nuts. Like the white chocolate or the swirl ones. The chopped Andes mints that you can get now would also be great. I have also raided my kid’s candy stash for things like this. Chop up mini candy bars or chop up some Reeses candy and sprinkle on top. All very good combinations. Chop up some caramels and add that with the marshmallows and cashews. Yumm. Its like topping ice cream the combinations are endless! So have fun with it and if you stumble on to a good combination let me know I would love to try it out. I will be back later today to post a card I made. See ya then!

P.S. I thought of another one. How about a S’more brownie?!? Replace the nuts with broken pieces of graham crackers. That sounds super good too. Be back later!

Rocky Road

No stamping today because it’s really hot at my house!! We had a new heating and air condition unit installed a few months ago and for some reason our air is not working. Today and for the next several days it’s going to be very humid and in the 90’s. Not fun. Hopefully it will be up and running soon. So when life gives you trouble and throws rocks on your path well then you need some Rocky Road Brownies to smooth things over.

HAHAHA yeah I know I’m probably the only one laughing at that right now. This is my version of the "Life gives you lemons...make lemonade" quote. I firmly believe that chocolate will smooth away any rough spots that life gives me and at the very least it tastes good along the way *wink* Love my chocolate. I'm glad I made these last night when it was nice and cool. Found the recipe in the new Food magazine. I changed it up a bit and just used my own brownie recipe and added the toppings to it. Yummm. I hope you are having a nice cool day where you are and if not I hope you are somewhere cool and comfy! If your having a rocky day too make the Rocky Road brownies. They are sure to be a bright spot in your day! :) Hopefully tonight I will get back to creating. Thanks for stopping by!!

Not much time to stamp or blog today, but I did get to make up this Thank You card pretty quick. It uses a scrap of Aqua Mist paper that I had embossed using the Swiss Dot folder. I usually keep a little box of leftover bits that I embossed, punched or leftover pattern paper that I‘ve stamped. Then when the mood strikes I just raid that box. Do you keep that kind of stuff too? I stamped a piece of Papertrey Kraft using Spiral Bouquet. The solid image I used Versamark ink. I just love how that looks! The image behind the sentiment was stamped in Versamark and covered in chalk. This always turns out nice. That is all I have for you today. Trying to get some house things done. Fun Fun! Thanks for stopping by.

The Copic Debate

Wow the beautiful sunny day of yesterday has been replaced by cloudy, buckets full of rain kind of day. I love a good rainy day for doing all those to-dos’s and projects I seem to put off. Rainy days are also good for naps. *Sigh* I don’t think I will see that nap today however. LOL!

Back to the title of this post. A Copic Debate. Recently I purchased a small handful of Copic’s to play with. If you have not heard about them you can check them out here. There is much debate on these markers. It seems either you like them or you don’t. I’m some where in the middle. I debated buying them because of several reasons. One was the price. They are not cheap and I knew if I really liked them it would cost a small fortune to get a nice color collection going. I realized that I don’t have that many stamps that I can color in. I would need to get more. That makes it even more costly. I have read on the website that when the alcohol evaporates that they are acid free. Which in theory I can use them in my scrapbooks. That is where I use markers the most, but I am a little hesitant about it. The Copic markers also have a learning curve to them and I didnt know if I had the time right now to learn. Well I went back and forth like this for some time and I decided the only way to find out was to get a few. I purchased a small handful to color in a specific stamp I had. The first thing I noticed was that for the money they are worth it. You can refill and change the tips out if need be and the quality is fantastic. So they are worth the high price tag. This is the image that I colored in. Now before I show you, all the Copic Rock Stars out there do not laugh too hard at my coloring job. :)

Isn’t that image cute? I love hedgehogs! I did get a little carried away with his blushing cheeks. Oh well. Over all I didn’t think I did too bad. I really liked being able to blend. Or at least my pathetic attempt at blending. I love that Colorless Blender pen. Over all I like them OK, but I am struggling with the fact that I have more Con’s that Pro’s. I just keep thinking about how many sets of stamps or other craft items I could buy with the amount of money the marker sets will cost. Hmmm still on the fence. Anyone have any thoughts to sway me? I did pick up a few for my husband to use on his art projects. If he likes them maybe the fact that we can share them will help me off that fence.

Here are the colors I used to color in Mr. Hedgie.

I forgot to get a green for the stem and grass so I used one of my old EK Success markers. Here is the final card I made with it.

So the debate continues and I guess for now I will just play with what I purchased and see where it takes me. So where are you in the Copic debate??
Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you have a wonderful day!!

Color Challenge

Well I’m getting started with the color challenge late toady. I left early this morning to do some grocery shopping and I think everyone had the same idea. The stores were packed. I wasn’t expecting that. It was a beautiful weekend and today is no exception. I hope everyone had a much rested weekend. This weekends color challenge was indeed a challenge for me. The colors were….

It’s been so bright and beautiful I have been in the mood for more summery colors and doing these browns proved to be a challenge. I may have to revisit this color combination in the fall! The first card I came up with I wanted to keep it with the color combination and add very little of other colors.

The tan paper is the new Kraft cardstock by Papertrey. It is really fantastic. I know it's not exactly the Cafe au Lait, but that was the closest I had in my stash. I am in need of more solid cardstock. I used a flower from Autumn Leaves for my background. I just inked it in Versamark and embossed with some clear powder. I love how it showed up on the Kraft paper. I stamped and cut out the sentiment and placed it on pop dots. A very simple card to put together.

The next two cards I had to add a pop of color to. The first one I did a resist technique on the Kraft paper.

I stamped the leaf image and clear embossed it. I then went back over the paper with some Palette ink. I just smeared the pad right over the paper. I scored the Kraft strip to channel the ribbon in. It really didn’t show up in the photo, but its there. I added the rose image and the sentiment and I thought it turned out really cute.

My last card today I think is my favorite. I used those K&Company stamps to make a pattern paper. I added a stamp from the Papertrey anniversary set to the center of each of the circle patterns. I thought the combination worked out well. The sentiment is also from that K&Company set. I love the addition of the Aqua Mist with the browns. One of my favorites I think.

Take a look over on Katie’s blog at her version of the Grey and Lavender challenge from last week. It’s super cute! That is all I have for you today. I must get back to putting away all those groceries! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you give this challenge a try!
